Thank your Member of Congress for their support of the world’s children

In a year where Congress was very focused on national issues, the Stand for the World’s Campaign has accomplished a lot.  We’ve raised awareness about the need for a US Children’s Ambassador in our communities, established relationships with the offices of our Members of Congress and built support for prioritizing the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children in our government.

We were hoping for legislation to be introduced in Congress this fall. This has not happened yet due to Congress’ full plate with health care reform and climate change.

However, there is exciting news. The Newborn, Child and Maternal Act of 2009 introduced earlier this year is gaining momentum in Congress.  This bill complements our request for a US Children’s Ambassador.  Please take a minute to thank your Member of Congress for standing for the world’s children and if they haven’t co-sponsored, request their support.

Thank you!

International Human Rights Day and Education for All

Join citizen activists all over the U.S. today as we request President Obama to allocate two billion dollars for the Global Fund for Education in his next budget.

Read a great fact sheet from RESULTS on why education matters. Then, get your fingers ready to dial the White House (202.456.1111) and leave the following message: I support education for all and President Obama’s pledge to create a Global Fund for Education. I ask that he budget two billion dollars for the Fund.”

Or, sign the petition on the Global Action for Children’s website.

You can even print out the flyers to give friends so they can be part of this campaign to urge the President to keep his promise to the world’s children. (Beware: you might soon be seen as the smartest, most globally informed amongst your set, which leads to all sorts of worship and dinner invitations … )

Today: Call the White House early and often …

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

Everyone—from the great Mandela to Oprah to Greg Mortensen—knows that education saves lives, reduces poverty and makes a safer world. Call the President and make sure he knows YOU know and that you want to spend some of your tax dollars on getting more children educated. Call the White House comment line and say, “I support education for all and President Obama’s pledge to create a Global Fund for Education. I ask that he budget two billion dollars for the fund in his FY2010 budget.”
